Julia Sebutinde

Julia Sebutinde is a Ugandan jurist born in 1954. She has had a distinguished career in law, marked by her appointment as a judge of the Special Court for Sierra Leone in 2007. This position laid the groundwork for her future roles in international justice. Sebutinde's expertise and experience have been recognized globally, leading to her election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2012.
Sebutinde has made history as the first African woman to sit on the ICJ. She is currently serving her second term, following her re-election on 12 November 2020. In addition to her work on the ICJ, Sebutinde also holds the position of chancellor at Muteesa I Royal University, a university owned by the Buganda kingdom. Her dual roles demonstrate her commitment to both international justice and education, solidifying her reputation as a respected figure in the field of law.
