Hermann Cohen (Carmelite)
German Jewish pianist and Carmelite priest
Hermann Cohen was a German Jewish pianist of notable talent, born on 10 November 1820. His early life was marked by a successful career in music, with his skills as a pianist earning him recognition. However, Cohen's life took a significant turn when he was baptised into the Roman Catholic Church, marking a profound shift in his spiritual journey.
As a convert to Catholicism, Cohen went on to become a Carmelite priest, taking the religious name Augustine Mary of the Blessed Sacrament, also known as Augustin-Marie du Très Saint-Sacrement in French. This new path in life reflected a deepening of his faith and a commitment to a life of spiritual devotion. Cohen passed away on 20 January 1871, leaving behind a legacy that bridged his musical talents with his spiritual pursuits.
