Argentine medical doctor and rabbi

Analia Bortz is a distinguished Argentine medical doctor and rabbi, renowned for her pioneering achievements in the field of Judaism. With a strong foundation in medicine and postdoctoral studies in bioethics, she made history in 1994 by becoming the first female Latin American rabbi, ordained at the Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano in Jerusalem. This milestone marked the beginning of her remarkable journey as a spiritual leader and advocate for ethics.

Rabbi Dr. Bortz has continued to break barriers and make significant contributions to her field. In 2003, she co-founded Congregation Or Hadash in Sandy Springs, Georgia, alongside her husband, Rabbi Mario Karpuj. Her influence extends beyond her community, as evidenced by her recognition as one of the most influential women in the world by the BBC in 2018. More recently, she has taken on prominent roles, including Founding co-director at the Center for Ethics at the Vatican and the University Abarvanel- Seminario Rabinico LatinoAmericano in 2023. In 2024, she launched the first Center for Ethics at the Vatican, a collaborative effort with Pope Francis and Monseñor Vicenzo Paglia, further solidifying her position as a leading voice in ethics and Judaism.
