Zion Levy was a prominent figure in the Jewish community, serving as the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Panama. Born in 1925, he dedicated his life to the service of his faith and community. His remarkable tenure as Chief Rabbi spanned 57 years, a duration that is notable for being the longest of any religious leader in the region.
During his lengthy tenure, Rabbi Levy played a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing a thriving Jewish community in Panama. Under his guidance, the community grew to comprise 6,000-7,000 Torah-observant Jews, a significant presence in a country with a population of 3 million. Rabbi Levy's legacy continued until his passing in 2008, leaving behind a lasting impact on the Jewish community in Panama.
