Solomon Abudarham

Solomon Abudarham was a prominent figure in the Jewish community, serving as the Chief Rabbi of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the community, including the establishment of a school for religious studies located on Parliament Lane. This institution played a crucial role in promoting Jewish education and scholarship in the region.

Abudarham's legacy extends beyond his educational endeavors. He also laid the foundation stone for the Flemish Synagogue on Line Wall Road, a notable landmark in the community. Although he passed away in December 1804 due to yellow fever, his impact endured. Years later, in 1820, his academy was converted into a synagogue, which was named Abudarham Synagogue in his honor, serving as a lasting tribute to his contributions to the Jewish community in Gibraltar.
