Mort Shuman was a multifaceted American musician, active in the field of music as a singer, pianist, and songwriter. Born in 1938, he gained prominence for co-writing numerous iconic rock and roll hits of the 1960s, with one of his most notable collaborations being "Viva Las Vegas". His versatility as a songwriter extended beyond the English language, as he penned and performed several songs in French, including "Le Lac Majeur", "Papa-Tango-Charly", and "Un Été de Porcelaine", which achieved significant success in France and other European countries.

Shuman's prolific career yielded over 500 songs, with his work being recorded by legendary artists such as Ben E. King, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Andy Williams, and Janis Joplin. He also played a key role in the English-language production of the musical "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris". Following his passing in 1991, Shuman's contributions to the music industry were recognized with posthumous inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, cementing his legacy as a talented and influential songwriter of his era.
