Maurice de Hond

Nederlands ondernemer

Maurice de Hond is a Dutch pollster and entrepreneur, born in 1947. His professional endeavors have extended beyond his primary field, as he is also recognized for his contributions to education. De Hond founded the Steve JobsSchool, an innovative elementary school model that integrates technology into its curriculum, providing each student with an iPad to facilitate personalized learning.

The Steve JobsSchool model gained traction, with 35 public schools in the Netherlands adopting it as of 2016. Additionally, two schools were established in South Africa in the same year. However, the schools faced significant challenges, including a critical report from government educational inspectors highlighting the lack of essential educational skills among graduating students. Ultimately, the foundation overseeing the schools declared bankruptcy in 2018, leading to their closure. Despite this outcome, de Hond's initiative remains a notable example of experimentation in educational reform.
