Israel Zolli

Israel Zolli, born Israel Anton Zoller, was a prominent figure in Rome's Jewish community, serving as its chief rabbi from 1940 to 1945. Originally from Austria, Zolli held a doctorate in philosophy and was a respected professor and author. His tenure as chief rabbi was marked by significant events, ultimately leading to his conversion from Judaism to Catholicism in February 1945.

Following his conversion, Zolli adopted the name Eugenio Maria Zolli. He went on to pursue an academic career in Rome, teaching philosophy at several esteemed institutions, including the Sapienza University of Rome and the Pontifical Biblical Institute.
